  8. Thank you for allowing me to clarify a misconception—why can’t women just breastfeed if they can’t get formula? Many mothers can’t produce enough milk and need formula supplementation. Others stopped lactating. We need to fix the formula crisis—not shame women.

    Dissenting vote from Dr. Helen Talbot mainly because >70% of kids in this age group have not received initial doses. She also asked questions about purpose of booster & how often boosters would be needed if the goal is to prevent infection and not just severe disease.

    BREAKING: CDC ACIP (independent advisors) have just voted (11 yes-1 no-1 abstain) to recommend a third Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11 years old. CDC director expected to sign off shortly. Kids will be able to receive booster if it's been 5 months after last dose.

    Update: CDC is now reporting 180 cases of pediatric hepatitis of unknown etiology, from 36 states. "Adenovirus has been detected in nearly half of the children and continues to be a strong lead" though investigation continues of all possible causes.

    Following calls from lawmakers to do so, President Biden is invoking the Defense Production Act in response to the formula shortage. He will require suppliers to direct needed resources to infant formula manufacturers “before any other customer who may have ordered that good.”
