Cool that British journalists are reaching out for academic opinions on this. But y’all should also pay attention to your boy Dawkins out there with his asinine and dangerous take on eugenics.

At least something good might come out of Brexit.

This is embarrassing, but I never knew the "Elgin Marbles" were statues. I guess I thought they were, like, marbles.

-
Heh. Yes, they’re marble statues from the pediments as well as marble panels from the metopes and friezes of the Parthenon. And I think from a couple other buildings on the acropolis as well, but it’s been too long since I took a course in Greek art...

This is awesome, but they are not the only loot that needs to be returned

Good on them. Time for more nations to give back artifacts, and I'm not just talking about Greece.

Curious should Pergamonmuseum's collections be given back to Iraq as part of the deal? Or shouldn't any discussion of the
#ElginMarbles be completely removed from trade negotiations and considered entirely on its own ethical merits? I don't have an opinion on those merits. -
I’m a fan of repatriation of cultural heritage. The Brexit/EU negotiations don’t have anything to with Iraq, though. And a century of Greece asking for the Parthenon marbles back hasn’t gone anywhere because Britain had a stronger political position.
