I knew I wanted to write a book, but I struggled for four years with the structure. Did the science scare me? Confuse me? Make me sad or angry or determined or hopeful? I couldn't find a good through line. But then I realized: the science made me *feel*. That's the book.

PSA before the IPCC report comes out: There are many possible futures. Just because some of them are really bad doesn't mean you get to give up. If/when we blow through 1.5 degrees C rise, we still don't get to give up. Because 1.5 is still better than 2. Etc.

Thanks, Kate. Our intentions over the last 3 years were to bring a clear, transparent report of results to the widest audience. I do hope that everyone looks at the summary for policymakers and the interactive atlas (regional change!) and contacts their representatives.

This will be replied to and quote-tweeted with so much cynicism, misanthropy, and negativity. Please remember: giving up helps no one but those invested in delay and denial. I refuse to subscribe to a lie they promote.

I understand the frustration. I get the despair and the anxiety. No one is saying this is going to be easy. But it is possible. The biggest uncertainty by FAR in climate projections is what humans we’ll do. Let’s get to work.
