To be fair, Ross Douthat is offensive.

What Douthat has posited in this article is that we once again relegate women to the status of property. Same old misogyny masquerading as intellectual discourse.pic.twitter.com/Wc0YOpVVMX

Can’t decide if it’s a good or bad thing that I finally googled ‘incels’ today...

Depressing as hell, but to forewarned is forearmed.

I can only assume that you didn’t read the article. Either that, or he’s just discussing a finer point than you are willing or able to acknowledge. At no point did he say that anyone has a “right” to have sex with any individual.
-
"...without anyone formally debating the idea of a right to sex, right-thinking people will simply come to agree that some such right exists..." But she's the one who didn't read the article?

-
“Right-thinking” is the giveaway. He uses the term ironically 2/2
-
I think the whole thing is supposed to be some sort of semi-ironic "gotcha" that because some people on the left support redistribution of wealth they should also support redistribution of sex (with women). Which makes it more gross, not less.
-
I think that Twitter is such an echo chamber that many people have been reduced to virtue signaling and black-and-white “thinking” instead of thoughtful analysis.

The FBI and local police need to keep all these men commenting in support of this under close watch. They're dangerous.

I think she's quite clear on the message. He thinks lack of sex is at the heart of these men's violence when it quite unequivocally is misogyny.

Anyone defending the "incel" ideology is dangerous and should be on a police watch list as a potential terrorist. Ten people are dead in Toronto because of some jerk's sense of entitlement and malignant misogyny.

What does he mean when he says he wants sex to be “more justly distributed”? Distribution right now is based on (absent a crime) partners mutually deciding they want to fuck. Sounds just.

sex is not a right, though think that viewing misogyny as the only driver of INCEL culture is flawed. Social isolation of young men is the primary driver of this/other extreme behavior, and anyone unwilling to address that should examine their own potential bias.
-
Can you go into more detail about what you mean when you say "social isolation of young men"?
-
There is a significant number of young men in societies around the world right now that feel socially disconnected, rejected & alienated and without positive role models and opportunities some are turning to angry, destructive forces as a source of belonging. Read “Why Young Men”!

The only sex anybody is entitled to is self love

exactly - all those "incels" have hands to use, don't they?

Among many arguments against this idiocy, I have to wonder if he thinks sex is a limited resource. Can I hoard sex? Where do gay people fall in this argument, or is it just women who bear the brunt of sex redistribution for sad sacks?
-
Is he aware that sex robots and human women are radically different things?
