All those who think the pandemic is over and that everyone who will be vaccinated is keeps forgetting about the kids. Just because mortality is lower doesn’t mean kids are safe. Until kids are eligible for the vaccine, we’re still masking & distancing.

The biggest problem that I see coming is that many districts are going to be dropping mask-requirements. I’m a teacher, and have two children in public schools in Ohio. The GOP legislature has taken over health guidelines.

10 and 6 year olds in our house. Our behaviors haven’t changed much even though my husband and I are full up on Moderna. For a country that’s all about the children we really don’t want to be inconvenienced for the children

Totally! Also think it's legitimately hard for families to navigate risk:benefit...we sold vaccines to older kids with the promise of somewhat return of activities, but what do we do with younger sibs? So hard to make all these decisions.

It really is. And it's hard to separate the widespread denialism from the science-based claims that kids are less at risk. Plus after 16 months, we're exhausted and really seeing the costs to the kids, so less willing to err on the side of caution (after months of super caution)

Agreed! As a professor of microbiology and infectious diseases, this is the most frequent question I get from parents with children under 12. What about school this Fall? In Iowa, our governor and legislature have passed a law against mask mandates.
-
This is extremely unfortunate. I really think elementary schools should still be masked
