Day 3 @ SCiNDU: Richly nuanced work on the development of interhemispheric connections elegantly presented by Linda Richards. Now I'm internally debating the benefits of electroporation vs viral injection, which had been my go-to🤔

Day 2 @ SCiNDU: Nice talk by Lucy Palmer from on how auditory input enhances the performance of a tactile task. Just the sort of thing that makes the hearts of cellular neuroscientists sing. Gorgeous in vivo data 😍

Imagine how much we could accomplish if we didn't spend so much time trying to get grants and sell ourselves. Imagine what we could do if dedicated research scientist positions were a thing: like postdocs but continuing positions that you could build a career and a life on.

If this is so, I don't know of another virus that's come across into humans from a cold-blooded animal. Happy to be corrected. Snakes could be the original source of the new coronavirus outbreak in China via

This seriously undermines the long-term sustainability of the STEM sector going forward. I'm surprised and not surprised to see these sentiments echoed so accurately in the report. Our own submission can be found here (2/2)

The pressures are felt keenly here in Australia too. Last year we teamed up with and made a submission to the Productivity Commission, highlighting that the current academic culture fosters an unhealthy mental landscape for EMCRs in the STEM sector (1/2)
