I was just discussing this concept with my friends here in Belgium yesterday. They are still surprised that Trump is President. I explained to them about the differences in the liberal mind and conservative mind. Empathy (or lack thereof) is a significant factor.

I would say Empathy is *THE* primary factor. Also, conservative minds tend to see the world in false dichotomies - and the liberal mind tends to see the shades of grey. Conservatives have a stronger tribal bias.

In researching snowflake due to being called one for the 1st time, 3 years ago by a white supremacist. I found it is a Nazis WWII term used to denote the ash that fell like snow around Nazi concentration camps.
