What’s the point of doing science if you can’t turn your first-first author paper into a mug?

Applications open for undergrad summer research opportunities at UCSF! The SRTP program is fantastic: $4k stipend, free housing in San Francisco, travel allowance, health insurance, and strong community building events throughout the summer. Apply by Feb 3

I never doubted that the effort would be worth it, but it’s so so so nice to see that all the middle of the night trips to the lab and the many date nights that started/ended in lab payed off. I’m happy to have contributed to this in both the technical aspects but also

I’m so proud of this work, I almost feel like it’s mine. A 2-author science paper is just as much work as you would imagine. In the time it took to go from idea to publication we moved in together, got engaged, got married, had a kid, and such kid is about to turn 3

Not sure what’s been more exciting these last 24h: giving my talk at meeting some my fellow tweeps, arriving somewhere with a after traveling for>12hrs, seeing my cousin after 10yrs. J/k if you’re a parent you know which one was more exciting

This study took a long time, from designing to executing to writing to getting it out... but I'm so proud of the final product and so excited everyone gets to enjoy looking at these figures

we looked at how tissues with different sGAG concentrations respond to changes in the osmotic environment and found very interesting correlations of biochemical components, specifically sGAG and collagen, to mechanical parameters... but also to each other
