Cancer patients, nurses working late shifts, and extremely ill people should pay money to private companies to get to hospital, thanks a bunch Greens. https://twitter.com/alexforeurope/status/1190911296906186752 …

It’s a popular policy because extremely ill and often poor people are penalised. Unless you invent buses that serve every route regularly 24/7 people need to use cars. Why should they pay a premium?

Total lack of understanding of class/life too often from the Greens. Obviously anyone would like to reduce cars but people relying on it to get to hospital might not be the place to start, lads.

We took my nan to hospital in the car because chemo meant she couldn’t stand, let alone wait for a bus for ages

In the past year here the local bus was axed, the other bus that goes through the centre of town has been cut, there will by the end of the month no night bus, nothing kn Sundays and one of the services only runs between 12 and 5. You have to get a 2nd bus to the hospital too.

Even with a good public transportation system, sometimes you just want to be in your own car and not on a bus. If I’m sick, the last thing I want to do is be on a bus. As someone with mental health problems I rely on my car to get around, as I can’t manage public transport.

Also I wouldn’t have thought it was advisable to pack busses with sick people. Let’s pack everyone on a nice hot bus, coughing and sneezing. I’m sure Doctors would advise against it, especially since some illness can cause a lot of issues for the sick or elderly.
