⚠️Totally “mild”—US pediatric #COVID19 hospitalizations nearly 2x last year’s all-time high. Kids shouldn’t be hospitalized—kids shouldn’t be getting #LongCovid. Kids have their whole lives ahead of them. Let’s protect the kids. 🙏

2) What a sad way for kids to spend Xmas vacation—moreover these infected kids will go back to school next week and infect more kids - tragic. ➡️ The worst pediatric COVID hospitalization state isn’t Florida — #1 is Texas.

3) Florida is just behind Texas in pediatric COVID hospitalizations— Florida may soon overtake its summer #DeltaVariant peak at this rate.

4) Can pediatric COVID hospitalizations get worse than 2x? Yes— in France 🇫🇷, pediatric hospitalizations in kids 0-9 are already 2.3x. twitter.com/VIRAL_FR/statu

5) Theres also little to no evidence that #Omicron is milder for #LongCovid… thus, take it seriously, please! 👇

6) Reminder that #Omicron is not really intrinsically milder much at all… a major 🇬🇧 study says it’s not really milder once you adjust for vaccines & past infections. Omicron causes more reinfections & breakthroughs—which at first glance makes % hospitalized look👀 much milder👇

7) Schools are reopening soon. Don’t let #Omicron be the deceptive Trojan Horse 🐎 of the pandemic and be lulled into complacency. Hospitalization numbers soaring doesn’t lie.

“Mild” but hospitals overloaded.
“Mild” but healthcare workers burnt out.
“Mild” but thousands of flights cancelled.
“Mild” but no booster shots for kids in under-ventilated schools.
“Mild” brain damage.
“Mild” collapse of society.
…“Mild” my ass.

8) Make sure to swab your kid’s throat (or at least the mouth) on COVID tests when trying to find #Omicron — Omicron is positive more on throat swabs than nasal recently according to many experts… see thread 🧵 below 👇

Why you should #SwabYourThroat…. Negative via nose… Positive via the throat. #Omicron is very different from all other variants. We need to adapt to changing testing strategies.
P.s. This story made my day!

9) there is no universe where you can argue that a huge 50% SPIKE in #COVID19 hospitalization nationwide in just 5 days in a country of 330 million people (🇺🇸) can be ignored. And with holiday reporting delays, it will only get worse. Brace yourselves. Protect your families. 🙏

In the next 1-2 mos. the US will see the worst surge of COVID hospitalizations since the beginning of the pandemic
It's driven mostly by the unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated
Hospitalizations are up +50% in 5 days—despite a delay in data reporting due to holidays

I have a 4 y/o. Cannot be vaccinated because of the Pfizer failed trial. What do you suggest we do? Pull her out of school? How do we protect our unvaccinated kids?

Moderna trial for kids 2-4 finishing in a few months. Pfizer is also fully approved. Ask your doctor.
