US troops in Afghanistan suffered 10 deaths from hostile gunfire or IEDs in 2018, and 16 in 2019. 2 were killed in 2020. In each year, service members were also killed by “green on blue” hostile incidents by Afghan security forces—believed to have been infiltrated by the Taliban.
