More, because it's weighted in a bunch of ways that are incredibly difficult to address. It's not the same as what's happening with the Keeler list as these communities are, but there are parallels for me between these events and ways in which community is complicated.

I do think that there can & should be complex conversations around how belonging functions under those circumstances & I read the Roma's scholar's letter & shared it because I think those conversations are necessary. Reclaiming belonging isn't easy & we need to acknowledge that.

Under the circumstances, I felt very uneasy that the conversation was immediately about policing who was "[particular identity] enough" versus a conversation about what contexts and stakes were involved. I waited to speak to people whose opinions on this I trust to process it.

I do think that there are always larger contexts of power, care & harm in which these conversations sit. I have multiple BIPOC scholars I actively disagree with, some who I reach out to when I disagree and some who I will subtweet to hell and back but likely never name.

The reason I do not name them is because I know that our identities will be weaponised and turn us into particular versions of "good BIPOC" and "bad BIPOC", and that racists love this because it enables them to claim one side and slander the other in the process.

It is the work of whiteness. Similarly, because there is a sex worker involved, the potential for SWERFs to come into this is high. But I also think that choices made do speak to enabling white supremacy and that escalating this institutionally was a choice made.

I hope that this can be deescalated while minimising harm, but I find that's rarely the case. This is why my earlier tweets were about what we offer community at the end of this: we need to be so careful not to let white supremacy or SWERF ideology gain space. And they will try.

For me, that's work we need to commit to and that's where I want to put my energy. YMMV but that's where I am on this.

We would love for all of this to have ended in November but that was made impossible by the person obsessed with making sure WOC behaved in a way that she deemed appropriate online. All of the escalation has been done by one person. Responses to that harm are being weighed by 1/

Some (not you) as equal to that harm. Which is a false narrative and one that paints us as aggressors as well. We are simply bring out into the open what she has been doing and how she has deliberately targeted us. 2/2
