People getting more angry at the audacity of my saying Muslims should be included in a conversation about the Renaissance than the white supremacy embedded in the idea of the Renaissance speaks volumes.

1/2 Was it race-based slavery at that point, though, or were the slave markets just highly developed in sub-saharan africa at that time? I'm far from being a Spanish historian. Blood Purity and colonial casta are the two points where I can see racism starting around that time.

(2/2) From all I can figure, racism is directly a result of slavery and trying to justify it, but I imagine that the religious ideas in Spain after Granada really set up an environment where racism could thrive.
