I think the term needs to be specific to what they are trying to address. Here’s it’s a European artistic and intellectual tradition but by calling it Judeo-Christian they attach certain civilizational and temporal qualities, and also effect exclusions, that are deliberate. 1/

Great point. I think it needs to begin at the PhD education level. I did a Ren lit/Religion PhD focusing on the Reformation. The books on my reading list barely covered Islam. I realized (too late) that knowledge of e.m. Islam would have been extremely relevant to my diss topic

It's pretty amazing to think of what Europe would be like without the seven centuries of Muslim europeans influencing it. I'm only dimly aware myself but grateful for the amazing things I am aware of.

Absolutely! Many Greek texts wouldn’t have made it to Europe without the Abbasids. And many people have figured out it’s probably a good idea to know the intellectual bground of thinkers, so they read Aristotle to understand aquinas... but why not Ibn Sina/Avicenna?
