'Frankissstein' by Jeanette Winterson is exactly this...a trans adaptation of the story...although I am not at all sure I liked the way she handled it which is unusual because I usually love everything she writes!

Thanks Varsha. I will check it out. Re: Winterson I was disappointed with her Hogarth Shakespeare retelling of The Winter’s Tale. A missed opportunity to dive inter Hermione’s story.

There was a lovely stage adaptation by Nick Dear, cast included Benedict Cumberbatch, but I guess it won’t qualify

While I don’t have a specific answer to your student’s query, perhaps Jeanette Winterson’s Frankisstein would be of interest.

I have been wanting to check out this book of critical essays, which may have relevant material (though I haven't been able to get a copy yet) Your tweet actually reminded me to look it up!https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/frankenstein-in-theory-9781501360800/ …

Thanks Lara! I will have to try to get this too. I’ve assigned a chapter from Black Frankenstein this term but I want some more and different theoretical analyses.

One of my students wants to know the same thing! Stryker's piece noted above was my suggestion for a first stop.
