When did AAPI become APIDA? Desis, South Asians, are actually from Asia and this seems like a weird boundary making and erasure of our Asian culture and heritage.

No clue. In my experience lots of cultural and professional orgs are thinking more inclusively now about Asia, which is great because Central and West/Southwest Asians exist too, and our experiences, while different, share important common threads with other Asian diasporas.

I agree. I think we shouldn’t accept orientalist topographical distinctions, but Desi weirdly overwrites our Asianness, IMO. We can be inclusive and not effect erasures.

Totally agree - APIDA seems to be moving in the opposite direction on many fronts. In the way you suggest, and by leaving out Central and West Asia entirely. In that framing MOST of Asia isn't "really" Asia....

It’s kind of a problematic over-correction because it still caters to white supremacist divisions: like “Asiatic” and “Mongoloid” but with different categories less offensive language to achieve the same delineating effect.
