#raceb4race I'm struggling with the difference between opening texts up to different perspectives & standpoints (eg: Indigenous etc.) and struggling against making "relatable". I think the answer comes down to colonialism and opening up interpretations...help me articulate this?

Thanks. I think it also has to do with power and privilege... Forcing other perspectives to conform to you and yours vs opening up status texts to other perspectives.

Agreed! Relatability homogenizes experiences and ignores the diversity of knowing in classrooms. To be relatable to everyone is impossible so it is important that students access multiple ways of knowing that may not match their own. Allow our students to learn to be unsettled.
