Still not clear on why you think critiquing a text on its own terms requires an interview or interrogation with the author. Your original tweet called me a coward which implies some kind of fear on my part. You’re obviously taking this personally on behalf of your colleague.

You aren’t critiquing a text- you started this with a vague reference- you didn’t name the text or author- you just wanted to say something without actually engaging in a dialogue which is your right of course but that isn’t academic discourse- it’s just crap talk on twitter

Stop seeking to apply racial categories to people that may not embrace them and if a Black Arab takes issue with the text then their concerns are based on experience and a complex understanding of their identity.

That is what Bayoumi does in his text so maybe you should take it up with your good friend. I can also advocate for the visibility of Black /Arab Muslims without being one. I can also critique the prioritizing of Arab and Muslim, including south Asian, identity because of 1/

The war on terror all the while ignoring Black American Muslims and Muslim African experiences even as these studies use the US racial frame to talk about Islamophobia. And also, please refrain from telling me what I can and cannot study and advocate for.

I didn’t. No one is saying that. But it’s clear you don’t want answers you just want to drag the text. I cannot and won’t speak for his perspective or any POC lived experience or the way that they frame their argument.

I’ve read the book. I know what it’s argument is. I’m pointing out vital occlusions. You also said to me, a brown American Muslim woman, that it’s not my place to speak on this.

I never said that. I said if you want actual answers rather than just dragging someone—ask him.

This you? And where did I say I wanted answers? I have always maintained that this is a shortcoming of the book in my thread. You sought to make it personal, you insulted me, and tried to discredit me.pic.twitter.com/xjwaaapOlr
