Mystified that you can write a whole book on "being young and Arab in America," and not have a single instance of Black, Arab representation, all the while claiming that Arabs are "the new Black." This clearly aged badly. #IAmWriting

I’m saying that where is the space for an Egyptian talk about his experience? Egyptians are constantly erased from the discourse-their complicated racial/ethnic identity doesn’t fit. He gets to discuss that-and taking to Twitter to say what he should have done is not useful.

You’re misrepresenting the book. It is explicitly about Arabs and Muslims in America. It is not his memoir, and even Egyptians are not over represented in it.
