She does a lot of TV documentaries, with her husband and fellow Yale Professor husband, Probably stills taken in the course of such work, for which they'll have obtained a permit.

Doesn’t make any of this not Orientalist. I’m also willing to bet the permits aren’t for her to recreate imperial nostalgia.

Didn't claim it would, just offered an explanation as to how she managed it. Most outdoor Egyptian sites don't need a permit for non-commercial photos & you can buy tickets for tombs & museums (camera phones are free). Excavation sites are a no-no. These look commercial though.

Thanks for this clarification. I think the OP’s point about this being offensive because if imperial cosplay and “Egyptology” angle. Almost as those these folks have zero familiarity with Orientalism.

Oh I agree. She appears in a lot of documentaries, with her husband, and, as mentioned in another reply, I find their cosplay cringe worthy. I think the worst was when we actually had to have a segment dedicated to her wardrobe contents.

I'm not joking, it was in an episode of, "Secrets of Egypt's Valley of the Kings". They'd hired an old dig house as accommodation, stocked it with period furniture and she starts rooting through her wardrobe showing off her 1920s & 1930s dresses.

Clueless or sinisterly deliberate it’s all just awful and exhibits a complete site hard for the violence of empire and white supremacy.
