I think I follow and empathize w/ the point that you're raising here, so I'm wondering what you think about how this positions those of us whose identities do overlap w/ research foci as doing me-search, which we all know is seen as less valuable.

Especially curious about and invested in how folx different relations to this not be placed at odds with one another since that only re-entrenches a kind of white supremacist scholarly practice that we're both invested in abolishing.

This isn’t in any way to pit scholars of color against one another rather to acknowledge that we should have the kind of research freedoms that white scholars do. So many time I only see scholars of color in collections on the topic of race. It’s a double bind.

At the same time it is vital that those of us trained in race work be positioned as experts not because of our identities but because of the intersection of them with our scholarship. Our “oppositional gaze.”
