Has anyone read Vanita Seth’s ‘The Origins of Racism’, out this month in ‘History and Theory’ (59.3)? It struck me as making quite compelling criticisms of some #raceb4race and #ShakeRace arguments; it’d be interesting to hear what scholars working in those areas make of it.
I know of a few grad students working on early modern Asia and the far east. I think Su Fan Ng has done incredible work in that geography, and I don't remember if her work is being cited by Seth. This is just a strange disciplinary tresspass here.

oh I didn’t mean geographically - more the thinking about not “recuperating” (Seth’s word) Chinese medicine, aesthetics, etc, within western historical narratives - I like work that’s done that with Shakespeare (Adele Lee’s, for another eg)
