Has anyone read Vanita Seth’s ‘The Origins of Racism’, out this month in ‘History and Theory’ (59.3)? It struck me as making quite compelling criticisms of some #raceb4race and #ShakeRace arguments; it’d be interesting to hear what scholars working in those areas make of it.

yes I wondered about that too - tho I liked some of the material about China and Japan toward the conclusion - would be interesting to think about a Shakespeare scholarship that moved in that direction as well

I know of a few grad students working on early modern Asia and the far east. I think Su Fan Ng has done incredible work in that geography, and I don't remember if her work is being cited by Seth. This is just a strange disciplinary tresspass here.
