Of course we can critique because it’s the taxes from our hard earned money that keep this country going - farmer subsidies, welfare checks for the poor, public places etc,

I don't use the economic argument because I don't think your citizenship or belonging should be tied to notions of material contribution to the economy. This marginalizes people who don't or can't work and reduces their humanity. I take your point, though.

I understand your perspective and admire it too but most of these gun toting right wingers pay less taxes than immigrants like me and their silly birth citizenship is only their claim to fame otherwise their actions are the most detrimental to this country.

I don't doubt that but this is a form of respectability politics that I cannot get behind. We don't have to show "them" that we can be like them for us to be granted the rights afforded by the law.
