And British / US plantation slavery was a heritable condition different from the kind practices in other places where manumission was more possible. This is not a defense of slavery but pointing out that you can have a conversation without bringing in indenture service.

Exactly all of this. But hey apparently I’m ‘defending colonialism’ when I say indentured labour, while harrowing in its own way, was not slavery.
