I'm experimenting with a/v responses and it's so wonderful to listen to my students wrestle with our texts in really incisive and provocative ways. I also like this assignment because it personalizes their responses in a way that writing usually doesn't (IMO). #AcademicTwitter

In class they were like, WTF did we just read. I'm listening to their audio responses to the text and they are so smart, talking about objectification, misogynoir, and passivity. Also really smart conclusions about the texts anti-blackness in how it treats Philippa's descendants.

When I first taught it, my students had the same reaction. I really think the text should be on every EM English primary source list for teaching PCRS. I'll share the chapter with you when I'm done.

Yes, please. It's so short and really accessible. I think it's treatment of race, gender, class is rich for discussion, and Indigenous erasure. It's a fantasy of discovery where you find other white people who are sexy.
