And like...even if you’re going to say “no,” there are kinder ways to do it. Like dude, write a form email to respond to these requests that maybe...doesn’t dehumanize your students?

Exactly. You don’t have to be an asshole to your students. That’s not necessary.

They probably wouldn’t admit it, but their primary lesson is that they believe that some people belong in university and others don’t, and they want students to learn which group they’re in. It’s the fucking worst approach to pedagogy, and there’s a lot of it.

Definitely. This is about weeding people out not about teaching.

"Get better WiFi" is literally not possible in the rural area I'm from, where that infrastructure does not exist, and it isn't possible for tons of my students in a city famous for being a tech hub. I guess the lesson they're teaching is "your work doesn't matter."

I spend so much time teaching incoming college students how important it is to send this exact sort of email to professors explaining when something has gone wrong with tech. What if this was their first response to something they thought was the responsible thing to do? Ugh.

Surely a quiz is a part of formative assessment that should be used to inform future content and approaches? This professor now has an I complete picture of what this student knows. And no reason to be so rude. I swear to god some people get into teaching cos they hate children.
