If you want to spend a life studying literary/cultural history, the path of least resistance rn is clear. Go to grad school in CS or Information Science & take courses in the humanities. There are a thousand interesting research questions down that road, and there are jobs.

I'm still 50% in English, and still trying to tug Engl depts in a direction that might serve students better. But it won't surprise you that people don't agree about the direction. So it's a slow process. In the meantime, there are other paths; students should know they exist.

May I ask what do they disagree with? How abt joint-degrees? Can't we continue to embrace the humanities and ensure its sustenance? I have seen CS-ISchool joint degrees but I don't think any of these graduates know how to address structural racism? One data ethics class does nth.
