I agree that we should not “teach for the evaluations.” But I wonder who the “we” of this aphorisms is? The majority of Shakespeare being taught right now is being taught by sessional and contract faculty who can find themselves jobless if they get poor evaluations #FolgerCRC

This is a great point; it resonates for me bc I’m contingent. But my personal philosophy is that I will always do what is right & what is right by my students. This work is too important & it can be done meaningfully & effectively. We’re advocating for folks to learn how.

I think this is a good time advocate for removing student evaluations of faculty teaching from review of faculty in all employment categories. I’ve been saying this in lots of meetings/emails because evals are a flashpoint where anti-racist work & COVID-amplified precarity meet.
