Imtiaz Habib was the first person to do this work, you don't list him after others who poached the work and didn't cite him.

2/ Thus, the mention of Imtiaz’s work does nothing to elide the erasure of an entire group of BIPOC premodern folk who answered the question with their research: yes, there were Black African enslaved in Elizabethan England, and Europe.

I can't open the BBC item, but I have read some of Weissbourd's work, and Habib, Eldred Jones, Hall, Smith, and many other BIPOC scholars are cited extensively in what I've seen. Sorry to hear that this acknowledgement of debt doesn't come across in the BBC item.

I know her work too and I know she situates this work in conversation with BIPOC work that’s come before. It is an oversight on the part of the publication, perhaps. But Margo’s point about asking the question in this way stands. These questions have been addressed.
