I hate HATE hAtE when ppl say: "You've got an NPR voice". 1. That's not a thing. STOP IT. 2. It's harmful to our mission to diversify the voices on our air. As someone who fights every day to get diverse voices on our show, this article is spot on:https://current.org/2020/06/when-one-way-of-speaking-dominates-who-gets-to-tell-their-stories-on-public-radio/?fbclid=IwAR3cFHjbmMu8_HbR3ogNCJPIfhs2ZPD-CTc6hHCuDl5BXTjeD_QcyCh1x3w …

I don’t understand. I’ve often thought people have npr voices. To me it means clear, easy to understand, slow, and enunciated clearly. NPR has some standard before they let people host a show. I think that threshold is reflected in what’s thought of as “npr voice”

...historically, the overwhelming majority of the voices you hear on NPR have belonged to white people. "NPR voice" is coded as white. There's not even a diversity of accents *among the white people* on NPR or public radio.
