Pleased to announce that @prof_nmehdiz and I will be talking about teaching race and anti-racism in the early modern period for @FolgerLibrary @FolgerResearch's new series "Critical Race Conversations" in July. In the meantime,
are some sources on the topic #ShakeRace

@Elysabethgrace Margo Hendricks and Patricia Parker's Women, Race, and Writing. This book was my introduction to the field and remains relevant to all the work I do in the classroom and my writing. https://www.amazon.com/Women-Writing-Early-Modern-Period/dp/0415077788 …pic.twitter.com/9FWShX3GLq

I also find John Berger’s Ways of Seeing, episode 2 quite helpful in getting students to think about the gaze, particularly the white male gaze, and objectification. I always assign the video. It’s a better teaching tool than the book.https://youtu.be/bZR06JJWaJM

Can I be self promoting and recommend my Introduction to The Postcolonial World Ed. Singh and Kim. ? I have addressed Said’s critics and explained why his work remains so central to our historical understanding of the Postcolonial world!
Kiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa

And in further suggestion, please also check my book, Shakespeare and Postcolonial Theory - for the relevance of Said to early modern studies! Addressing those who dismiss him. Good luck on your project. Sounds great!

I’m reading it right now for an article on Haider.
