That’s the nonsense they teach in US suburban elementary schools. When my sons were 7 & 9, one asked me what I was reading so I told them about Baldwin, “the great Black writer.” The younger one cut me off, “That’s racist!” He’d been taught that noticing someone’s race was racist

I had to tell my college students that it was ok to say that person or character was Black in texts, and that pointing out race was not inherently racist, as we have been taught through colorblind ideology.

This is often sentence #2 after “I don’t see color”: “I don’t care if you’re Black, white, or purple!” And I have always despised it.

Always interesting who gets to decide they don’t see color and assume a morally superior and evolved position. It’s also way to force BIPOC “to make everything about race.”
