There’s a @netflix movie that 1) want me to believe that Olivia Munn is a war correspondent and 2) her character calls the places she covers “shithole war zones.” American militarism and exceptionalism toward the global south infuse our culture. Obviously, I didn’t finish it.

It was a fine movie - they did a whole split narrative thing where they redo the movie halfway through. Worth watching if only to see that construct. But def forgettable movie at end of day. But I watch a LOT of TV.

I hope they changed her job, too. The imagined people of the countries she covered only deserve her trying to humanize them. Clearly, this touched a nerve.

I think the only reason they gave her that job was because she had to leave the wedding abruptly. And the writers were prob like, what job do we give her where she has to leave abruptly? It was poorly executed too.

It’s just that if you’re going to bother with such a career maybe not make the character exhibit casual prejudice.
