“With rejection and brace yourself for an academic job market where tenure-track jobs will be hard to come by for at least two to three years.” Why is this only a concern for working class students? The smug privilege and neoliberal finger wagging dripping from this is atrocious.

“Cast your nets wide as you apply to jobs and be prepared to accept your lower-tier choices.” She’s one of those horrible people who got a job after 2008 and thinks she did it through will and hard work. Bullshit. Oh, and she’s probably terrible to undergrads.

I graduated in 2008. It took me 8 years to get a TT job. I’m probably at what she considers is a low tier job because I’m in an interdisciplinary Humanities department. I recognize my privilege and my hard work every day to be where I am, but there were other factors at play 1/

Too. I wasn’t just me busting my ass every year in the job market. It was also luck and timing and the support of my colleagues. Nothing I could have done would have manifested some of those things. 2/2
