“We are listening, and we understand the need to do more to respond to and include the work of BIPOC scholars in early medieval studies. There is a long history of scholars of color being minimized or overlooked, and it was our responsibility to push against it.” #ShakeRacehttps://twitter.com/ManchesterUP/status/1214946700021903360 …

They’re gaslighting. As if the only thing out there is one blog post - and that is a *famous piece of writing that no medievalist working in the UK or the US should have missed. That meeting and Leeds IMC back to back...

Such a good point. Also, one of the editors was in Hawaii when Adam's post was written. She posted it last year to the ISXX listserv as a *must read*. The other editor sent me a sad email about his guilt. Being gaslit hits us and we don't even realize it b/c they toy with us.

White guilt and private emails are just ways to absolve yourself from wrongdoing without putting in the work of making things right. This statement isn’t even close to a first step in that direction.

Oh absolutely and the emails are always just as atrocious and make matters worse (again burdening BIPOC). As I just tweeted to elsewhere, it's easier to put out these flaky statements with no concrete plans to make changes and then go on with racist business like usual.
