It’s interesting that Othello’s always an example of domestic violence if it appears in pop culture. Other tragedies are mirrors for more weighty matters. Or it is conjured as a reflection for exceptional Black men in ways that ignore the events of the play.
I didn't really realize that--Shakespeare in popular culture is not my area at all!-I think domestic violence is a weighty issue, but I guess in the kinds of material you are referencing (or in our culture at large) it is not considered as such-Othello is then a "private" tragedy
I absolutely agree that it’s weighty and political but it’s been framed as minor because it’s not about the fall of Kong’s or threats to the state, although it is about the latter too, IMO.
