Also, what are you thinking of as central? Lurhmann's Romeo + Juliet, Romeo Must Die, and West Side Story (and numerous other R&J adaptations) engage with race, though in obviously problematic or stereotypical ways.

Teen Shax films like 10 Things I Hate About You and She's the Man stand out for their upper middle-class whiteness. There are also things like the cultural appropriation nightmare that is Branagh's As You Like It. Lots of different ways to go with all this.
