And frankly, I don’t care if it was the next great masterpiece (which it was fucking not). If you enable harassment or abuse, get out of the profession. We don’t need you here anymore.

Stop separating the writing/scholarship and the person in these situation. The author is a gross, sexist, misogynstic asshole and that should be the only thing that matters here.

Hannah is correct. There may be problems with the piece, but the accusation that he has somehow violated journalistic norms--coming from people who seem to have no idea what journalistic norms are--is ridiculous.

And the insinuation that describing someone in totally unidentifiable ways is tantamount to sexual assault is reprehensible.

I’m not sure where someone suggested that he had committed sexual assault. I also don’t know that journalists ask to manufacture conversations out of whole cloth. I found the piece utterly off-putting.

I didn't say someone said he had committed sexual assault. I'm saying the insinuation is being made that what he did is tantamount to it.https://twitter.com/KathrynVSantos/status/1127723324262502400 …

There is no insinuation. His behavior in the article and outside of it speaks for itself. When women tell you they don’t want to talk to you, you should listen and accept it. If you don’t that’s harassment.

It’s totally normal to try to talk to a source (of any gender) even when that person says no at first. If you don’t, that same person might be angry that you didn’t offer a chance to comment!

I don’t think, from the source, that this was a normal interaction. It’s also interesting that you choose to disbelieve the account of the person on the receiving end of his multiple rebuffed requests.

That person described his representation of her as "deeply problematic." The full description is that she was "surrounded by friends and talking jovially." I fail to see what is deeply problematic about that description.

There seemed to be other interactions that occurred, that didn’t make it into the piece, in the tweet you cited.
