yeah I definitely feel like this might legit vary by field, but in the humanities at least I don't see it.

I would assume that someone with dr in their name would be able to connect the dots. But very well. Examples would be things like medieval literature, which there is no demand for or need of in the modern workplace outside of academia.

Or a PhD in philosophy. The demand for high end professional philosophers is... well, nonexistent. Things like theatre - again, a cute hobby but not worth spending the time or money on to get a degree because you won’t be able to pay off the student loans with a prancing job

Yes, I’ve seen this one before. It’s like an alcoholic writing a piece about why being a drunk is good because you might not end up being thirsty later.

if you’re one of those side-job people: good for you! I would hope you could find it in yourself to have some sympathy for the 700+ other downtrodden adjuncts who’ve responded to this tweet with outrage. Good luck out there

I do have sympathy for them, if they honestly bought the tweed jacket life of leisure career path image for their career path. But no sympathy for people who play the victim of the system, when it’s not the system’s fault they made bad choices in college of what to study.
