how please they are though, holding hands to hearts, exlaiming, "I just don't even SEE race" as if everyone else is racist for, say, pointing out the rate of indigenous incarceration, for example.

Oh yes. I had a student say that once and I responded, how lucky for you, but that’s not how Race works. It became an opportunity to dialogue and he was able to understand the erasure and power at the heart of such thinking. This was a long term effort.
