My wife + I have tix to see Othello, which I've never enjoyed. But last night, on the same stage, we saw @AmericanMoor, which pushes so intensely into a dialogue w/the play's failings, its potential, + the authority of whiteness in theater.....it's now all eyes on this production

So in this production (by a theater I very much like), Othello is a high ranking US m*litary official (General?). It handles the "before the Senate" scene interestingly: in a war room, urgent geopolitical matters pressing, Desdemona's mother is an embarrassing racist...

...she is wasting everyone's time + Othello plays to a receptive room. Brabantio relents, but disowns her daughter. The rest of the production, imo, attempts to de-emphasize race. Othello's jealousy is dispassionate, his decision to murder a reluctant(?) calculation of honour...
