Colleagues: these authors (https://www.asee.org/public/conferences/113/papers/24088/view …) suggest using the term "excluded identities" in STEM fields instead of "underrepresented minorities". I definitely agree EI is better than UR, but do you like EI better than the term "marginalized populations/groups"?

Just to clarify--you mean that some people who don't believe that they are personally excluding people from STEM fields but nevertheless believe that institutions can exclude people might be upset at using the word "excluded"? If so, is "marginalized" different in some way?

Yes, I think marginalized or minoritized is different because it locates identity within societal structures. It’s a fine distinction but from certain conversations, I think some might resist exclusion.

By using “identities” EI infers more than race/ethnicity is included, and that is appealing . I take
