I should add that the four other reviewers loved the issue and have accepted the articles with minor revisions. So, this is ultimately a win. However, if there had been only two reviewers or even the one...

Also a moment when the gender neutral pronoun failed me. I didn't want to use he, even though I suspect it was a male reviewer, but it ended up sounding like all refused and that was not the case. Language clearly matters.

Also the conceit of the issue is thinking about how we combat forms of white supremacy in our fields, so it’s ironic that we came up against it with one of our reviewers.

Did the editors at least address this issue and immediately agree to send it elsewhere? Were the spec issue eds in charge of finding referees, or were the journal editors responsible? I just..I know we all edit on top of the rest of our work, but this is ex of editorial CRISIS.

The other reviewers read and loved the issue. It will be published. The one (dude?) found it offensive and wrote an evaluation based on not having read anything.

A reviewer just said no I won’t read any of the essays in this issue because the entire premise is “too political” as if that’s a combination of words that even makes sense? I know those people are out there and yet I’m gobsmacked

That is exactly what happened. It was beneath this person to read this offensive, political nonsense.
