Playing that is...hard. And in 2019 (or any time, but you know what I mean I think) I realllllly don’t want to excuse sexual assault. But then what does that do for the end of the play? Gahhhhhhhhhh

Exactly. In performance I’m fine with making edits for the sake of the thesis of our show. Such changes are often made. For example Oyelowo cutting “haply for I am black,” in his Othello. I consider that line pivotal but he took it out.

It’s so hard. Prospero’s command over the language that Caliban and Miranda use makes it hard to know what “Violate the honor” means and to what extent Prospero interpreted the encounter for them.
