You need to go back and reread your own passage, then, and learn about demographics and economics of the late 16th and early 17th centuries. London at the time was being enriched by the global system of trade in the Age of Sail. Cairo was still very important, but sidelined.
...and that's not even something that affected powers outside of Christendom or the West entirely. If you would take your ideological blinders off for a moment, you'd see that the same thing happened to other Christian powers, like the Venetian Republic, which also suffered.
