The authors claim "Congress should make this move without requiring insurers to cover over-the-counter contraceptives, which would cause prices to increase." Insurance companies should not be allowed to opt-out of providing medication to patients. Plain and simple.

We fundamentally cannot have accessible OTC birth control if there is no insurance requirement. We also cannot have truly accessible birth control with a prescription required. We need both. Patients must be able to access birth control OTC & pay out of pocket & use insurance.

Some patients do not have health insurance and will want the flexibility to be able to purchase birth control OTC out of pocket. However, by removing the health insurance coverage requirement, this would make birth control inaccessible to people who already pay for insurance but then have to pay additional costs for birth control out of pocket, creating another financial burden.

Any argument that calls for birth control to be available over-the-counter without insurance coverage is not in patients' best interest. It's designed to keep insurance companies from having to cover medication. It recreates financial barriers for patients who need birth control.

I’m a woman & RN & a person whose medical background makes BCP’s dangerous for me The conditions I live with are not rare While I support improved access to BC I think it is too risky for too many women We don’t need more women dying for inadequate care It needs to stay Rx’d

Having otc birth control is no more dangerous than having Tylenol be over the counter.
