Thank you for your question. I want to give you a simple yes/no answer, but I can’t. So I hope you’ll bear with me. In my decades of practice, I’ve seen both under-treatment and over-prescribing. The common theme, though, is the lack of non-opioid options. 1/
I’ve had patients become habituated and addicted (different things), even when they had pain issues that desperately needed treatment. We have no good answers for this. 2/

Worse, some people are left in pain, while others are on a path toward death from addiction. And I feel helpless to help them. We have some resources that work, but because our healthcare system is a mess, many don’t have access to a comprehensive approach. 3/

I believe a comprehensive approach is necessary, to include investment in resources to find new ways to treat pain, investment in resources to treat addiction including universal healthcare with mental health parity, and legalization of marijuana. End/
