I’m really frustrated tonight. I’m hearing people say that their plan for ending gun violence is to fund the CDC and end the ban on gun violence research so we can study the issue some more. What? We’re going to wait for more research before we do anything? 1/6

Look, I’m a scientist. And I’m all for research. The CDC should be fully funded and they should be allowed to study gun violence. But we have more than enough data to do something about gun violence *right now*. 2/6

Not in 10 years or 15 years when more research is completed. *Right now*. There is legislation already written and ready to go to ban assault-type weapons. The American public already supports by wide margins instituting universal background checks on all gun sales. 3/6

The time to enact this legislation is NOW. Why would we tell school children and worshippers in their churches and people at movies and concerts that they have to wait to be safe. 4/6

The only thing stopping us are people sitting in Congress and refusing to act. People like
@JudgeJohnCarter with his A+@NRA rating. People who won’t commit to enacting this legislation on day one. People who want to wait for more research. 5/61 reply 6 retweets 19 likesShow this thread
But we can act. We can make sure they hear us loud and clear in November when we vote them out. #BlueWave2018 #TX31 6/6
