Minimum wage should be tied to the cost of living in the area, i.e., states like NY or CA where is is very expensive to live/buy a home should have a higher minimum wage than say MS or AL where the COL is much lower.
Is it important for Democratic candidates to fight for an increase in the minimum wage to help decrease income inequality and to stand with workers?

I'm fine with a federal minimum of $12. There are place where that is livable. Individual states and cities should be allowed/encouraged to go higher.
